Fürth for Newbies

Die Altstadt von oben mit Aussicht des Rathauses und der Kirche St. Michael, bei einem nebligen Morgen
© Johannes Heuckeroth

Fürth is more than a thousand years old, and looks back on an exciting, eventful and highly original history: the centuries-long reign of a triumvirate, the peaceful coexistence of three religious communities, the large Jewish population and the meteoric economic upturn from a city of craftsmen to a flourishing centre of industry.

The tour begins close to important sites of the city's origins on the banks of the Rednitz, and follows the streets in the old quarter to squares steeped in history. The buildings also betray much of their past, like those lining Gustavstrasse, Grüne Markt, the theatre and the town hall.

Far from being dry and intellectual, Fürth for Beginners introduces visitors to the city’s history in an entertaining narrative studded with amusing anecdotes.
